My Green Smoothie – Quick, Easy, Tasty & Healthy!

12 Aug

There is no better way to start your day then with a green smoothie!  I have been having a green smoothie for around 2 months now, originally with my breakfast but now I take one to work in these cute glass bottles and drink it as my morning snack.

A lot of my work colleagues screw their noses up when they see me drinking the smoothie but after I make them try it, they all want to know how to make them!

Of course I use my thermomix so I don’t just juice the fruit and vegetables but actually blend the whole thing so I get all the nutritional benefits.  My usual mix is:

Handful of spinach
Handful of kale
3 cm piece of cucumber
1 stick of celery
1 cm piece of ginger
1⁄2 orange
1⁄2 apple
3-4 strawberries
6 ice blocks
water

Place everything except the water in the thermomix bowl and chop for 30 seconds on speed 10.

With the blades still going, pour in the water over the top of the MC and blend for another 30 seconds.

Depending on how much fruit/vegies/water you put in will determine how thick your smoothie is. Just keep adding water if you would like a thinner consistency.

If you wanted to have this as your breakfast, try adding some oats, seeds or nuts to make it more fulfilling.  I was cutting up the fruit and bagging it up for the week ahead and just juicing each morning but now I just make one big batch on a Sunday, bottle it up and keep them in the fridge for the week.  The mixture ends up quite thick but I just add a little more water and shake it up when I’m ready to drink it.

Speaking of which, I best get into the kitchen and make my batch up now!!

Enjoy!
