Wasabi Peas – innocent snack, I think not!

14 May

Peas 1

Peas 2

A couple of girls at work were eating these wasabi peas today and after trying one for myself, I got the empty packet out the bin and had a look at the ingredients.  You will see under the nutrition information that is says ‘No Added MSG’.

If you have read one of my earlier posts on MSG you will know that there is more than one way to hide MSG.  Two of the additives in this packet are in fact MSG!

Below are the potential side affects from the 3 nasty additives in this packet:

A133 – Brilliant Blue
Allergic reactions, asthma, gastrointestinal symptoms, HACSG and FIN recommend to avoid, may cause hyperactivity, people sensitive to aspirin may wish to avoid, prohibited in foods for infants, suspected carcinogen, suspected mutagen, suspected neurotoxicity, rash or hives

631 – Disodium – Inosinate
Allergic reactions, behavioural problems, headache, heart palpitations, itchy skin rashes, prohibited in foods for infants, should be avoided by asthmatics and people with gout of kidney disease, swelling of the lips and tongue

627 – Disodium – Guanylate
Allergic reactions, behavioural problems, headache, heart palpitations, itchy skin rashes, prohibited in foods for infants, should be avoided by asthmatics and people with gout of kidney disease, swelling of he lips and tongue

This makes me so angry!  I can’t stress enough – please read your  food labels.

Hi Lynn, the ones in the packets are loaded with MSG, not sure about other ones though? You could ask the health food store…
